How to be happy?

She woke up feeling the warmth of the sun in her face, illuminating her room with its golden rays. She thought to herself as she stared at the ceiling of how her day would go this Monday morning. Would her deepest darkest thoughts haunt her in broad daylight? With a heavy sigh she rolled out of bed and started her day with a smile, thinking she is braver than she is already at least that’s what she knows.

As she went out the morning breeze touched her face, maybe all she needed was sunlight just to brighten up her days. But soon it will get dark and her unhappy thoughts shall once reign. But for now she has to go to school to make up the day. While walking she passed by smiling faces of people she never knew, she smiled back at them which was something new.

The familiar buzz in the hallways we’re comforting and people are smiling everywhere. Laughter filled the air making her grin. Friends pass by each other laughing and joking as they go. She sits on her spot, right in the middle of the noisy lounge. Her friends are here, finally, she won’t have to frown.

At the end of the day she goes home to an empty house, she steps in and her dog greets her with a smother. She laughed at her pet and gave it a treat. She took a rest and recalled what happened this morning, and yes, she realized she could be happy.

As the night deepened she thought to herself again, this time her voice was louder. She pushed the sad thoughts away and screamed in her head “I am happy!” over and over again. She realized happiness is in the small things in life.

The warmth of the sun on your face letting you know you are still alive and breathing, that God did not give up on you. Smiling to start the day can lighten things up and keeps you going. The morning breeze hugging you tight as if giving you a warm embrace. That sometimes we all need some time alone to see the greatest things in life. To be happy is a quest everyone is trying to succeed in, and sometimes all we need is to step back and see things in a different light.
