A Walk to Remember

It was way back 2006 when my best friend gave me her favorite book before migrating to another country. I was giddy when I took it home and carefully examined the cover. It has autumn drenched trees with their leaves turning red. A pathway was visible but covered with fallen leaves, the title and the authors name is in gold lettering. Feeling my heart beating I slowly turned the page and started reading. Then and there, I knew, this is not just another cliche love story.

The story was set in North Carolina, where the summer was always picture perfect as it is on winter. I always loved summer. Call it coincidence, the first time I read this book was on the summer before my first year in high school. Imagine a girl outside her window bawling her eyes out and smiling bittersweet one summer noon, facing the setting sun. Yes, that was what this book made me feel.

I will never forget the feeling when Landon knew in his heart what he wanted to do for Jamie. It felt like I was there to witness it all right before my eyes. Every word touched my heart making me feel the love pouring out from each page. It was written so vividly and emotionally that I remember having to close the book and take a deep breath before continuing to read. The emotions were coming out of me.

It made me realize that love, is a complicatedly beautiful thing, that there is one person in this world that can love you unconditionally. The exact passage in the Bible was written on the book, love will endure against all odds and struggles. It does not matter what the odds are for a love worth keeping is love worth fighting for.

Every summer I would sit outside and feel the warmth of the surroundings, I would open the book that taught me how to love. I would close my eyes and feel my heart beating just like Landon when he felt he found the answer to his doubts. I would smile at myself and look at the brighter side of life just like Jamie did when she knew that she lived a good life.

I would be spoiling you if I went on for so long, but I'll end it here. A walk to remember will take you on a walk through finding love, having faith, life changing views and most importantly how an act of kindness can impact a person’s life.

If you are looking for a good summer’s read, to feel that young love that is so pure and true. I recommend you read this. Fall in love, take risks and find that peace in your heart.
